Do not touch
2022
art installation with hair
Hair is one of the major themes in my research and journey of acceptance as a Black woman. Having experienced various forms of violence throughout my life, I've reached the peak of my self-acceptance. When you touch a Black woman's hair, you are touching an extension of that body, its history, and all the stigma built around our hair. "Don't touch" is a provocation but also a denunciation. The one who dares to touch the hair displayed on the wall may be the same one who has already touched someone else's body.
